The Talk: As Canada’s leading integrated energy company Suncor is focused on responsible growth and creating sustainable energy solutions.  With this focus on sustainable development we are focused on managing our business for the long term by continually improving our environmental, social and economic performance all while understanding and navigating the complex, and ever-changing world of environmental policy and regulation.

How do we ensure we are ready for policy and regulatory change?  How do we manage new expectations and new legislative and regulatory processes to ensure we meet our business needs and timelines? How will sustainability be incorporated into new policy and regulation? In the midst of major legislative changes that have included Bill C-69, Bill C-68, and Bill C-48 we will share some valuable experiences and examples of different ways of working and navigating this new and challenging policy and regulatory landscape.

About the speaker: Janice Linehan joined Suncor in 2008 and has held various roles in Regulatory Approvals and Sustainability. In her current role as Director of Environmental Policy in the Sustainability group at Suncor Janice leads Suncor’s efforts to inform, develop, and translate various pieces of emerging provincial and federal environmental policy related to Suncor’s business.  Janice has most recently coordinated efforts to respond and engage with government on changes to Bill C-69 and Bill C-68 both at Suncor, and with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) and the Mining Association of Canada (MAC).

Janice has her B.Sc in Marine Biology and a Masters in Environmental Science and has worked in the Oil and Gas industry in various environmental roles for 15 years.  Previous to her work in industry Janice has worked for both the Alberta government and the Federal government (DFO and ECCC)
