The International Association for Impact Assessment - Western and Northern Canada Affiliate (IAIA-WNC) is pleased to announce the return of the “Pubinar” series of talks. Come on out to Ceili’s Pub in downtown Calgary to hear great speakers and get involved in some lively discussion. Drinks and food are available for purchase from the Ceili’s menu. Members and non-members alike are welcome for this free event.

The first pubinar of the Spring 2018 series is coming up on Tuesday, April 3 from 5:30-7:00 pm at Ceili’s Irish Pub in downtown Calgary.

Dan Giurescu will provide an overview and explanation of blockchain with illustrations of practical use cases. Richard Stobbe will review the legal aspects of blockchain technology including: examples of how it is being used, how it is being regulated, and the topic of ‘smart contracts’

Richard Stobbe is an intellectual property lawyer, Trademark Agent and Certified Licensing Professional (CLP) with Field Law. Richard works with technology companies involved with online contracting, fintech, remote data collection, IoT, artificial intelligence (AI) engines, and cloud-computing technologies. Richard has been a course instructor in intellectual property law for the Masters of Biotechnology class at the University of Calgary and for the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University, and has been a guest lecturer at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law in Vancouver, and to various industry groups including APEGA professional development sessions on intellectual property in Calgary. He maintains a popular blog on Canadian IP and technology at ipblog.ca and his articles on IP law have been published in the Canadian Intellectual Property Review.
